The New Centralized Revenue Opportunity System (CROS)

On May 7, 2018, The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration released a drastic update to the way their online services are accessed and used. The new system, Centralized Revenue Opportunity System (CROS), paves the way for future efficiency upgrades and feature implementations.

We won’t bore you with the details, so here’s what you should know now.

Your old login won’t work.

CDTFA introduced an entirely new online system for their services. The old login that you used in previous years will not work as the accounts weren’t ported over.

What you need to do:

CREATE NEW LOGIN – Request a security code via mail. Go to and select “Sign Up.” You will receive a code within 7-10 business days that allows you to complete the sign-up.

LIMITED ACCESS CODE – The new term for your “Express Login Code.” This code will remain the same, however, you’re limited to filing your sales tax return and prepayments through this access and how you input the information is slightly different. Under this access, you won’t be able to view any filed returns or prepayments made.

THIRD PARTY ACCESS – Accountants and tax professionals will also need to create a new username and password with the new system. This means any previous 3rd-party professional would need 3rd-party access. Simply inform your 3rd-party professionals that they need to request access to your online services accounts with CDTFA. You’ll be prompted to approve and/or modify their access to your account.
