Staff spotlight about Erin Draper, administrative assistant at MBS Accountancy accounting firm in California

November 2021 Spotlight

Author’s Note: This month’s Staff Spotlight features Erin Draper, an Administrative Assistant here at MBS Accountancy. Erin’s just joined our team in 2021, but she’s already been an amazing support to our team with her administrative help and amazing personality.

Before working at MBS Accountancy, what was your most interesting job and why?

Before MBS Accountancy, I was the Finance Manager at a major apartment complex here in Fresno. It was challenging, because I had to play the bad guy when it came to collecting rent. But it also gave me the opportunity to develop many amazing, close friendships that I still have today. People often think of finances as a dry, boring field. But, I loved my residents and enjoyed doing my part to maintain the property so our residents would be proud to call it “home”!

What made you want to work at MBS Accountancy?

MBS Accountancy was the next step in the financial world for me. I knew I wanted to plant my feet here with this firm because of how incredibly friendly, helpful and supportive everyone was…right from the beginning.

How do you balance your work life and personal relationships?

Very carefully! Balancing work-life and mommy-life gets tough sometimes when you have 3 children between the ages of 3 and 16. Having a flexible schedule here is a HUGE help in making sure I can do my job without sacrificing my relationship with my kids.

What is your favorite book or movie and why? *

My favorite movies of all time are the Jurassic Park series. Since I was little I have always been fascinated with dinosaurs!

If you could do another job for one day, what would it be and why? *

I enjoy my work as an accountant, but if I had to choose another job, I’d want to be a tiger trainer in the circus. The chance to train tigers, feed them, and hug their soft fur would make my inner child very happy!

What is your personal mantra or motto that keeps you going every day?

I do my best to not worry about things that I cannot change. If I know something is out of my control, I try not to fret about it. Leaving it in God’s hands, helps me stay positive and keep moving forward.

I can’t remember who said it, but I saw a quote that said, “Living in the past causes regret, living in the future causes anxiety, but living in the present gives you peace.” That’s pretty much my attitude on life: Live in the now and leave the rest in God’s hands.

What is your favorite quote? Why do you like it so much?

“Whether you think you CAN, or you think you CAN’T, either way……. YOU’RE RIGHT.” I first saw this on a poster in grade school, but it stuck with me because so much success can come from us simply believing in ourselves!

What is your favorite part about working at MBS Accountancy? *

I really enjoy the team-focused environment here. I’m surrounded by genuinely good people who are always supportive and helpful.

What advice or tips do you have for future employees?

I’d say, “Support one another”. Nobody’s an island unto themselves and we all need each other to be successful. There’s no “I” in “team” and a little communication can go a loooong way. Oh, and don’t be afraid to use an emoji or meme 🤪
